Waterline Register, Bangkok

FieldBangkok, Thailand2025-04

Two water registers were documented in the same city during April 2025, and both survive in the published record. The first sits underwater — the shark dive footage, shot in still, even blue. The second is the street: Songkran festival water moving through arterial roads in volumes no forecast suggested. The combined film, Shark Dive — Songkran, was published April 13, 2025.

The two registers behaved differently on set. Underwater, light fell in even columns and everything moved at reduced speed; framing was a matter of patience. Street-level, the reverse held — motion everywhere, transit traffic mixed with festival water waist-deep by midday, and any unprotected lens written off as a loss.

The working method stayed constant across both registers: one sealed camera, one dry bag, one elevated vantage per hour. In the edit the halves read almost like tide charts — immersion rising through the street frames, falling away underwater — until the city resolves into a single continuous waterline.

What the register preserves is the contrast itself: same city, same week, one register weightless and slow, the other waist-deep and fast, both filed under a single published date.
