Ridgeline Session Register

FieldChiang Mai mountains, Thailand2025-03

This register was filed from the Chiang Mai mountain sessions behind Above Clouds, the film published March 18, 2025. It records conditions observed on the ridge during that period; nothing here is projected beyond the shoot itself.

Light was the first variable each day. Dawn arrived as a slow gradient — grey, then pale gold along the upper surface of the cloud deck — and the usable window between them was short. Once the sun cleared the opposite ridge, contrast hardened and every frame gained edges the earlier takes did not have.

The cloud layer behaved like a second horizon. It sat below the ridgeline through most of the morning, moving slowly enough to hold a composition but fast enough that identical framings minutes apart read differently. Depth cues flattened; wide shots became studies of texture rather than distance.

Underfoot, broken granite dictated pace. Footing demanded shorter strides and continuous attention, and after the first ascent the crew's pacing settled into a steady, metronomic rhythm — an audible cadence on the audio tracks. The published cut runs twelve minutes and thirty-four seconds, and its mountain sequences carry these conditions intact.
